The decision by the Mysuru District Administration to shift Yuva Dasara venue to a location 9 km away from city centre is unwise for several reasons.

A letter on this issue has already appeared in SOM on Sept. 28, outlining valid points.

Until now, the event was free, with costs covered by the Government. This new development transforms it into a commercial venture, detracting from the true spirit of Dasara celebration. It has become a political event, where politicians and their families will enjoy free passes and front-row seating, sidelining public.

While the event may primarily target youth, seniors and elders would also want to attend. By moving the venue so far, it becomes impossible for elders to participate. Additionally, the high ticket prices raise serious concerns. If parents have two or three children, how can they afford such high costs?

Moreover, parents may want to accompany their children for safety reasons, leading to tough decisions and potential conflicts. With heightened sensitivity of today’s youth, there’s a risk of problems if parents cannot afford the high ticket prices.

It’s not just city residents affected, but people from rural areas also attend. For these reasons, shifting the venue and introducing pricing is an unwise decision.
