Dasara Wrestling Championship begins

Mysuru: The first day of Dasara Wrestling Championship witnessed some intense bouts with wrestlers vying for supremacy at D. Devaraj Urs Multipurpose Stadium in Karnataka Exhibition Authority premises, here yesterday.

First bout between Pailwan Raghavendra of Davangere and Pailwan Vikas of Mahadevapura lasted an hour  and Vikas emerged victorious. With majority of local spectators seated in gallery, Pailwan Vikas received good support throughout the bout.

In another bout, Pailwan Prakash Patil won against Pailwan Basavaraj Patil of Davangere Sports Hostel in just 19 minutes. Similarly, Pailwan Syed Hussain won against Pailwan Suri, Pailwan M. Pradeep won against Pailwan Dwavanagowda S. Inamathi, Pailwan Byrappagowda won against Pailwan Kiran Gowda, Pailwan Mohammed Sakib Baigh won against Pailwan R. Yuvaraj. Meanwhile, all other remaining bouts ended in a draw.

 In the Women’s category, Pailwan Nandini of Gonikoppa won against Pailwan M.K. Monika of Malavalli, Pailwan Yeshaswini of Rammanahalli won against Pailwan Suhana Banu of Mandya. 

Earlier, District Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa inaugurated the Dasara Wresting Championship by opening the bout between Pailwan Raghavendra and Pailwan Vikas.  

Cash reward for winners

Dasara Kanteerava (above 86 kg category): Winner will receive 1 ¼ kg silver mace along with Rs. 15,000 cash prize. Rs. 12,500 for runner-up, Rs. 10,500 for third place winner and Rs. 10,000 for second third  place winner.

Dasara Kesari (74 kg to 86 kg category): Winner will receive 1 kg silver mace along with Rs. 12,500 cash prize. Rs. 10,500 for runner-up, Rs. 8,000 for third place winner and Rs. 7,500 for second third place winner.

Dasara Kishore (54 kg to 65kg category): Winner will receive ½ kg silver mace and  Rs. 10,000 cash prize. Rs. 8, 000 for runner-up, Rs. 5,500 for third place winner and Rs. 5,000 for second third place winner.

Dasara Kishori (57 kg to 62 kg category): Winner will receive ½ kg silver mace along with Rs. 10,000 cash prize. Rs. 8,000 for runner-up, Rs. 5,500 for third place winner and Rs. 5,000 for second third place winner.

Dasara Kumara (above 74 kg category for Mysuru Pailwans): Winner will receive 750 gram silver mace along with Rs. 10,000 cash prize. Rs. 8,000 for runner-up, Rs. 5,500 for third place winner and Rs. 5,000 for second third place winner.

The committee has also announced a cash prize of Rs. 3,000, Rs. 2,000 and Rs. 1,000 for winner, runner-up and third place in State Level U-17 Wrestling Championship for Boys and Girls.

Manjegowda, Karnataka State Guarantee Schemes Implementation Authority Vice Chairperson Dr. Pushpa Amarnath, Karnataka Wrestling Association President Gunaranjan Shetty, Dasara Wrestling Sub-Committee Deputy Special Officer L. Nagesh, Working President Dr. N.C. Venkataraju, Secretary B.S. Raghu and others were present.
