Dasara Food Mela logo released

August 24, 2017

Mysuru: Deputy Commissioner (DC) D. Randeep launched the Dasara Food Mela logo at his office here this morning.

Speaking on the occasion, Randeep said that apart from the regular Scouts and Guides ground, the Food Mela is most likely to be held in two other locations this year.

Pointing out that holding the Food Mela in two more locations would not only divide the huge crowd that throng the mela, but would also popularise the Dasara event, the DC said that the decision was based on the suggestions of Dasara High Power Committee and added that the Deputy Director of the Food and Civil Supplies Department would finalise the same.

Air Show

The DC said that plans were afoot to hold Adventure Sports at Oval Grounds and that the District Administration was in regular touch with the Air Force authorities on holding Air Show during Dasara.

ZP CEO P. Shivashankar said that the other two Food Mela locations will be chosen by taking into consideration the availability of vehicle parking space and other necessary infrastructure.

Pointing out that the Food Mela offers a wide range of delicacies and other specialities and as well as tribal foods from across the State including the popular ‘Bamboo Biriyani,’ he said that the Mela would be held for eight days at the Scouts and Guides Grounds and for 10 days in other two locations.

Stating that the hotel owners and food vendors had expressed their reservations on holding Food Mela in three locations, Shivashankar said that the District Administration would address all the issues raised by them at yesterday’s meeting.

Food and Civil Supplies Deputy Director Dr. K. Rameshwarappa said that last year’s Food Mela at Scouts and Guides Grounds had 98 stalls, each measuring 8ftX20ft. But this time, more than 100 stalls would be erected at the venue to cater to the needs of the increasing demand from hoteliers and other food vendors.

He said that he has prepared a list of ideal locations, which include the ground near Lalitha Mahal Hotel, ground near Sathagalli Bus Depot, People’s Park in Nazarbad, Railway Ground on KRS Road and Curzon Park. However, the two most ideal venues for the Mela would be chosen in a couple of days, he said.

Print Dasara invitations by Sept. 1

Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep has instructed the officials to finalise the list of Dasara programmes and print the invitations by Sept. 1.

Chairing a meeting of Dasara Programmes Expenditure Estimate Committee and Dasara Sub-Committee Secretaries at his office yesterday, Randeep said that distribution of invitations should begin from Sept. 3.

Directing the Committee members to submit estimates before Aug. 26, the DC instructed for completion of tender process at the earliest.

Pointing out that only cloth banners must be used for Dasara publicity, the DC said that Dasara Digital Boards must be displayed near the Palace.

He further said that all Dasara publicity materials must be approved  from the ADC and Information and Public Relations Department.
