‘Mandarino’ wins Cubic Mysore Derby

Mysuru: The much-awaited Cubic Mysore Derby-2024 was held at Mysore Race Club (MRC) in city yesterday. About 5,000 spectators including MRC members and invitees attended the event. 

K.N. Suresh Kumar, Chairman and Senior Steward, Mysore Race Club (MRC) Ltd., and also the sponsor of Cubic Mysore Derby-2024, is seen presenting ‘The Cubic Mysore Derby (Gr.1)’ trophy to J. Ramesh. owner of ‘Mandarino,’ which won the Mysore Derby races on the 16th day Mysore Monsoon Races-2024 held at MRC yesterday. The winning horse, trained by Irfan Ghatala, was ridden by Jockey L. Alex Rozario. Also seen are Anitha Suresh, Karan Suresh, Sonia Karan and Members of the Managing Committee of MRC.

Being the 51st Derby race in the history of MRC, yesterday’s Derby was said to be the richest race of Mysore Racing Calendar Year (total stake money of more than Rs. 1.2 crore) with Rs. 25 lakh sponsored by Cubic Systems and Rs. 25 lakh by MRC.

Basavaraju from Halli Bogadi and Vijay Krishna, who won first prize (Alto car) and second prize (Hero bike) in the Skill Contest at MRC yesterday, are seen receiving the prize from MRC Chairman K.N. Suresh Kumar.

A total of six horses participated in Cubic Mysore Derby-2024 race in which ‘Mandarino,’ ridden by jockey L. Alex Rozario, emerged victorious. Trained by Irfan Ghatala, the winning horse is owned by J. Ramesh. The winning connections, including the owner, trainer and jockey walked away with winners’ stakes money of Rs. 68.82 lakh while second place winners were handed over a cheque of Rs. 22,94,250, third place –  Rs. 11,47,130, fourth place – Rs. 5,73,560, fifth place – Rs. 3,44,135 and sixth place – Rs. 2,29,425. The MRC also conducted a free contest of skills and prizes were given to those who had nominated the first four places of the Derby. The winner of the first place was given a Maruti Alto Car, Hero Mobikes for second place winners (2 numbers) and Fastrack Smart Watches (5) for third place winners.
