About 25 kilolitres oil worth nearly Rs. 10 lakh evaporates
Mysuru: Panic was created for sometime in Mysuru-Belagola Industrial Area on KRS Road after an underground tank storing bio synthetic oil caught fire on Wednesday.
The fire mishap took place in the underground MS tank located in MJM Forgings Bharat Pvt. Ltd. The tank, with a capacity of storing 45 kilolitres (kl) of oil had about 25 kl of bio synthetic oil worth about Rs. 10 lakh which evaporated, according to Fire and Emergency Services officials based on the information provided by the company representatives.
As people were cordoned off from going near the tank, no one was injured during the fire.
It is suspected that, there was a leakage of oil and a short circuit that ignited the fire. Fire and Emergency Services personnel from Hebbal, RBI and Saraswathipuram Fire Brigade Stations, who rushed to the spot along with fire extinguishing vehicles, doused thefire successfully.
Mysuru Region Chief Fire Officer P.S. Jayaramaiah guided Regional Fire Officer C. Chandan, District Fire Officers Ganganayak and K.S. Ramesh, Hebbal Fire Station Officer H.S. Santosh and staff in the fire extinguishing operation.
