Mysuru: The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) Department has issued notices to five Indira Canteens for not maintaining hygiene and cleanliness in the canteen.
As there were reports that hygiene and cleanliness were not being maintained in Indira Canteens, FSSAI Commissioner Srinivas had instructed the Department officials to conduct inspections of Indira Canteens across the State.
In this backdrop, the FSSAI officials conducted sudden inspection of all 12 Indira Canteens across the city, collected samples of the food being served in these canteens and sent them for testing to a laboratory. Also, during the inspection, the officials found that five Indira Canteens had not maintained hygiene and cleanliness besides not following certain rules and issued notices to the five Canteens.
The FSSAI officials conducted inspection of a total of 125 Indira Canteens across the State, collected 190 food samples which have been sent to a laboratory for testing. A few Canteens, which lacked hygiene and cleanliness, were issued notices.
FSSAI Commissioner Srinivas said that based on the report of food samples from the laboratory, action will be taken if flaws were found in the quality of the food samples.
