Mysuru: BJP Mysuru District Rural President L.R. Mahadevaswamy has said, the victory of Congress in all the three seats that faced by-elections in the State, won’t dent the image of BJP State President B.Y. Vijayendra.
In the previous general elections, Congress won 135 seats and pushed BJP to the Opposition bench. Considering the political conditions then, BJP, after weighing pros and cons, considered Vijayendra as a leader fit to decorate State BJP President’s Office, he said.
In the subsequent LS polls, BJP won more seats than ruling Congress in the State. But the recent by-polls victory of Congress is in continuation of the trend witnessed in the previous polls, when the ruling party had an edge over others. It is no more a secret that, Congress romped home with victory on the back of money power. At the outset, what worked in favour of Congress is the release of arrears under ‘Gruha Lakshmi’ to the beneficiaries on the eve of elections, he said.
“Taking all these factors into consideration, it is succinctly known what clicked for Congress. It was incorrect to seek the resignation of Vijayendra as State BJP President. Firstly, one should understand that, it was not the general election that concluded in the State recently,” pointed Mahadevaswamy.
