Having moved to this heritage city last year with great hopes of enjoying a clean and green environment, I am deeply disappointed by the lack of maintenance and the apparent absence of civic sense among residents in preserving what was once a beautiful and well-kept city.

I reside in one of the most popular residential areas, V.V. Mohalla (15th Cross). This road, narrower than most others, is plagued by overgrown weeds on both sides. Dried leaves from trees accumulate on the road, blocking it and creating an unsightly mess.

There seems to be no system in place for regular road sweeping or the removal of dried leaves. Although waste collection occurs daily, the segregation of waste into dry and wet categories is not practiced by many residents.

Adding to the problem, people often leave unused furniture on the roadside outside their homes. Construction materials and debris are sometimes abandoned on the road for months. This not only makes the streets an eyesore but also creates difficulties for seniors in the area.

Having lived in major metropolitan cities for 30 years before choosing to settle in Mysuru, I still hold out hope that this once-beautiful heritage city can regain its former glory. I urge the administration to establish a proper system to address these issues and to penalise those who lack civic responsibility by dumping waste on the roads.

Mysuru is home to many historical landmarks. It is high time that its roads and public spaces are restored to their original charm, allowing Mysuru to reclaim its title as the cleanest city once again.
