With factionism growing within the ruling Congress party in the new year, all eyes are on the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting which is scheduled to take place at a private hotel in the State Capital this evening, which will be attended by Congress party State In-Charge and AICC General Secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala.
As the factions supporting Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, who is also the KPCC President, continue to issue statements favouring their leaders for the Chief Minister’s post amidst a chorus of ‘Dalit CM’ by some Legislators, with Siddaramaiah already at the helm, the Congress High Command has stepped in to bring about truce between different factions of the party, which are vouching for the cause of their leaders.
During the meeting, Surjewala is expected to issue a stern warning by asking the party Legislators not to cross the ‘Lakshmana Rekha’ and to stop issue statements or indulge in activities that hurt the interests of the party.
Prior to the CLP, a General Body Meeting of the KPCC has been convened, in which also Surjewala will take part. During the meeting he would communicate the instructions sent by the Party High Command to the office-bearers on party organisation and further strengthening of the party at the grassroot level with focus on the forthcoming Local Body elections, it is learnt.
