Mysuru: JSS Hospital Senior Psychiatrist Dr. M. Kishor emphasised the urgent need for greater societal awareness to prevent atrocities against women, stating that 55 percent of women face some form of sexual harassment or violence.

He was speaking on the topic ‘Sexual Offences – Reasons and Solutions’ at the Zonal-level ‘Yuvajanara Sankalpa Samavesha’, organised by the Mysuru Unit of AIDYO (All India Democratic Youth Organisation) at a city hotel recently. Dr. Kishor pointed out that sexual harassment is deep-rooted and widespread, affecting not just women but also 30-35 percent of men, whose experiences should also be acknowledged and addressed.

He highlighted the growing misuse of AI in creating morphed or nude images, stressing that such actions also constitute sexual harassment. He further attributed the rise in crimes against minors to excessive social media usage.

While acknowledging that laws against sexual harassment and violence are strong, he stressed the need for sensitising society at large and urged people to raise their voices against every incident of harassment or abuse.

Earlier, Medical Service Centre State President Dr. Sudha Kamath inaugurated the event. AIDYO office-bearers Dr. G.S. Kumar, Siddalinga Bagewadi, T.R. Sunil and S. Suma were present.
