Valedictory of Indian Technical and Economic Co-Operation (ITEC) training on ‘Sericulture and Silk Industry’ held at CSRTI, Mysuru

Mysuru: Viraj Singh, Additional Secretary, Union Ministry of External Affairs,  observed that, the country has achieved progress in the field of sericulture, following the exchange of knowledge with foreign countries and has occupied a key position in the International Sericulture Commission, constituting 23 countries.

He was addressing the valedictory of three-week training on “Sericulture and Silk Industry”, attended by 21 foreign candidates, at Central Sericulture Research and Training Institute (CSRTI), Mysuru, under Indian Technical and Economic Co-Operation (ITEC), Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi.

Singh said that, India has been guiding other countries in sericulture. The country is rich in resources and talent, that makes it an apt place for investment and taste success in the realm. The Central Government, is also extending its full cooperation in this regard and the Ministry of External Affairs, has been chalking out many programmes.

The 21 candidates from 7 countries, who underwent training, should make judicious use of the same, upon returning to their countries. Any confusions in the area of sericulture can be solved by seeking the advice of institutions by communicating and maintaining a rapport with them.

P. Shivakumar, Member Secretary, Central Silk Board, Bengaluru, said the second hi-tech training conducted in a short span of time has been a success. “Apart from other regular training sessions, the CSB is offering Diploma Courses. This hi-tech training programme  provides a innovative experience and comes in handy in learning the nuances of sericulture cultivation of other countries,” he added.

 “India is a Member of International Sericulture Commission and the trainees should start practicing sericulture on their own. The Commission was ever ready, to provide required guidance,” said Shivakumar.  

Dr. S. Gandhi Doss, Director, CSRTI Mysuru presented the welcome address. Dr. R. Meenal, Senior Scientist and ITEC Co-ordinator, presented the certificates to successful trainees,  followed by a brief note on ITEC was presented by Padmanav Nayak., Asst. Secretary, International Sericulture Commission, Bangalore. The trainees shared their feedback about the training programme. Dr. Adela Ramona Moise, from Romania, expressed that, hands on training was very useful and we have gained much knowledge about Sericulture.  We shall implement it in our country, she assured. Dr. Revappa, Scientist-B, Training Division, CSRTI, rendered vote of thanks. The scientists, officers and officials of CSRTI were present.
