Mysuru: More than 300 students from various engineering colleges across the city staged a demonstration in front of Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Mysuru Regional Office near Sathagalli Bus Stand, here yesterday demanding re-introduction of the carry-over system.

The students abstained from classes for the day to take part in the agitation. Claiming that the withdrawal of carry-over system and the abnormal hike in fees had badly hurt them, the students urged the VTU authorities to address the issues at the earliest.

The students also warned of resorting to road blockades if their demands were not met in a week. Mysuru South Police provided security at the venue.

The students, who later staged a dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office under the banner of VTU Students’ Struggle Committee and All India Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO) urged the VTU authorities to conduct supplementary examinations for the choice based curriculum system (CBCS) students.

“VTU affiliated colleges now follow two curricula. In 2015-16, the curriculum was changed to CBCS. The 2015-16 batch students are now in the third year while the last batch of students under the 2010 curriculum scheme are in thermal year. The students under CBCS and 2010 curriculum scheme have been inconvenienced,” they said.

Criticising the delay in the announcement of results, the students said results which were to be announced in December 2016 were delayed by five months and results of many students were withheld.  

They also condemned the crash semester programme of the VTU which makes a student face 16 to 20 exams in a two-month period.
