Admission to Class 1: Age limit relaxed to 5.5 years for kids

April 17, 2025

Bengaluru: Buckling under the pressure of parents to relax the age norm for admission of children to Class 1, the State Government has relaxed the age restrictions to 5. 5 years (5 years and 5 months), applicable only for the present academic year.

This was announced by the School Education and Literacy Minister Madhu Bangarappa here yesterday.

The Government had earlier capped the age limit for admission of children to Class 1 to 6 years, which has been now revised to 5.5 years. The age limit is applicable for the students seeking admission to Class 1 after studying LKG and UKG. But the parents were in a state of confusion following the increase in the age limit.

Minister Madhu Bangarappa said, there is a uniform age limit of 6 years, with a relaxation up to two months, for the children seeking admission to Class 1 in the country. As decided by the State Government, the new age limit will come into effect from the next academic year.
