Mysuru: The Mysuru City Corporation (MCC), in line with the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016 and as per the Karnataka Gazette Notification dated Mar. 11, has intensified enforcement of waste disposal regulations and the plastic ban.
Between Feb. 21 and Mar. 30, the MCC imposed fines amounting to Rs. 5,33,600 for various violations. A total of Rs. 93,500 was collected from those dumping waste in unauthorised places, Rs. 8,800 from households for improper disposal of mixed waste and Rs. 32,000 from commercial establishments for similar offences.
Penalties also included Rs. 1,500 for releasing wastewater onto roads, Rs. 500 for failing to dispose animal waste at designated spots, Rs. 20,000 for improper disposal of construction debris, Rs. 2,500 for dumping waste into open drains, Rs. 600 for burning leaves along roadsides and Rs. 3,000 for burning plastic and dry waste.
Additionally, Rs. 4,200 was collected for the use of banned single-use plastic items, while street vendors were fined Rs. 1,27,000, commercial businesses Rs. 1,65,000 and industries engaged in sales and distribution Rs. 75,000 for violating the plastic ban and waste regulations. The fines were announced by the MCC Commissioner as part of ongoing efforts to ensure a cleaner and more sustainable city.
