Jailed in illegal mining case: Janardhan Reddy disqualified as MLA

Mysuru/ Bengaluru: Following the seven year jail sentence awarded to Gangavati MLA G. Janardhan Reddy in an illegal mining case, the State Government has issued a notification disqualifying  Reddy as the Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA).

It may be mentioned that the Special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Court, Hyderabad in Telangana, had recently pronounced the judgement, holding former Minister and present MLA Reddy and three others guilty in the 14-year-old illegal iron ore mining case, under his Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC).

Since the day the Court convicted Reddy, the latter has been disqualified from his post, complying with the norms. Any elected representative, who is convicted for a period of two years and above is eligible for disqualification since the day of conviction and continues for six years after release from jail.
