Ahilyabai Holkar remembered

Mysuru: The 300th birth anniversary of Ahilyabai Holkar, the queen of the Malwa empire, was celebrated at the BJP Office in Chamarajapuram here yesterday.

Speaking on the occasion, State BJP Mahila Morcha Chief C. Manjula said Ahilyabai Holkar was well-known for her contributions to social welfare, governance and temple restoration. A visionary ruler, Holkar undertook rejuvenation of Kashi Vishwanath temple, she said.

Pointing out that Prime Minister Modi, who was inspired by her governance model, took the initiative for installation of her statue at Parliament Library and also at Kashi Corridor, Manjula said that Skill India has drawn inspiration from Holkar’s works.

Floral tributes were paid to the portrait of Holkar. Morcha office-bearers Renuka Raju and Chandrakala, City BJP Yuva Morcha President Rakesh Gowda, leaders Ramesh, Kamalamma, Rathna Lakshman, Shanthamma, Pushpa Venkatesh, Cable Mahesh and others were present.
