Bengaluru: The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) has demanded a public apology from actor Kamal Haasan for his ‘Kannada born from Tamil’ remark. KFCC has set a deadline till this evening and has warned to ban the actor’s upcoming movie ‘Thug Life’ if he fails to apologise before the deadline.

Speaking to media persons, here yesterday, KFCC former President Sa. Ra. Govindu said, “In case Kamal Haasan fails to apologise by Friday evening, the Chamber will not allow the release of ‘Thug Life’ in their area,” adding that there was no sympathy for Kamal Haasan.

KFCC President M. Narasimhalu said that the pro-Kannada organisations had demanded a ban on the movie ‘Thug Life’ for which a meeting was convened at the Film Chamber to discuss on the issue and it was decided that the actor must apologise. Narasimhalu said that they were trying get in touch with the actor.

It may be recalled that Kamal Haasan had made a controversial statement in which he said “Kannada was born out of Tamil” during a promotional event in Chennai which led to widespread protests by pro-Kannada organisations. The activists also vandalised the posters of the movie ‘Thug Life’ which is set to release on June 5.

Karnataka Rakshana Vedike President Praveen Shetty filed a complaint at RM Nagar Police Station in Bengaluru accusing the actor of disrupting harmony.
