No reprieve for RCB’s Nikhil Sosale

June 11, 2025

Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court (HC) has rejected to grant interim relief for RCB Marketing and Revenue Head Nikhil Sosale, who is currently in judicial custody, over the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede incident.

Nikhil, in his petition, had sought interim relief stating that his arrest was illegal and politically motivated.

It may be recalled that Nikhil along with three others including Sunil Mathew, Kiran and Sumanth of DNA Entertainment Pvt. Limited were arrested by the Bengaluru Police on June 6 accusing them of being responsible for stampede that took place on June 4 at Chinnaswamy Stadium killing 11 people and leaving many injured.

HC adjourns hearing to June 12

Meanwhile, Karnataka High Court has instructed State Advocate General Shashi Kiran Shetty to submit his reply in a sealed envelope tomorrow (June 12).

Appearing before the HC Bench comprising Acting Chief Justice V. Kameswar Rao and  Justice C.M. Joshi, which took up hearing of the suo moto case with respect to Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede incident, Advocate General Shashi Kiran Shetty informed the Court that the State would not like to make any public disclosures with regard to June 4 incident and sought permission to submit the reply in a sealed cover.

The HC had earlier ordered the State Government to submit its reply with details about the event, measures taken to control the crowd and arrangement for emergency services at the Stadium.

However, pressed with the delay in submitting its reply, the Advocate General agreed to submit the details but only in a sealed cover. Later, the High Court Bench accepted the request and gave time till June 12 to submit the report.
