Nalwadi adopted advanced development models after visiting western countries

Mysuru: Kannada Professor Dr. Purushottam said that Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar implemented the advanced development models of western  countries in the State too, when he returned after visiting the advanced countries.

He was speaking at Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar Jayantotsava, organised by Mysuru Kannada Vedike at Freedom Fighters’ Park in Subbarayanakere here yesterday.

Highlighting the contributions of Nalwadi to the State, Dr. Purushottam said that people of the State have continued getting the benefits of the projects implemented by Nalwadi decades ago, which shows the vision of the erstwhile Mysuru ruler.

Noting that Nalwadi used to treat all sections of the society with equal respect, he said that Nalwadi  started several educational Institutions exclusively for women in which thousands of girl students are studying even today. Nalwadi is also credited with the establishment of K.R. Hospital and PKTB Sanatorium on KRS Road.

Dr. C. Renukamba, in her address, said that Nalwadi focussed on women empowerment and also strived for eradicating the ‘Devadasi’ system.

The erstwhile Mysuru ruler, who had great concern for the welfare of citizens, introduced several programmes, projects and plans for the growth of society, she added.

Achievers from different fields were felicitated on the occasion.

Vedike President S. Balakrishna presided, while Ravi compeered the programme.

Vedike office-bearers  Siddegowda, Gopi, Gurubasappa, Bhavani, Swamy, Madappa, Shivegowda, Poornima and others were present.
