Bengaluru: Strongly opposing the State Commercial Tax Department’s issuance of notice to small traders who are receiving digital payments through UPI, the Karnataka Rajya Karmika Parishat has warned of shutting down sale of milk, milk products and bakery products for three days from tomorrow (July 23).
Addressing a press meet here yesterday, Parishat President Ravi Shetty Baindur said that small traders will stage a massive demonstration at Freedom Park in Bengaluru on July 25 to protest against the GST (Goods and Services Tax) notice issued by the Dept. to small traders, vendors and other sellers who are practising digital transactions.
Announcing that it has been decided to stop sale of milk, milk products, bakery items, cigarettes and the like on July 23 and 24, he said, all small traders, vendors practising UPI payments, workers etc., will wear black bands for 3 days as a mark of protest. Accusing the State and Central Governments of attempting to exploit small traders & vendors in the name of GST, he said, the Freedom Park protest on July 25 will be a warning to the State and Central Governments.
