On Kukkarahalli Lake walking path

July 27, 2025

Sir,

This has reference to the news item ‘Repair Kukkarahalli Lake Walking Path: MGP urges UoM VC’ in Star of  Mysore dated July 23.

I am a senior citizen walking around Kukkarahalli Kere every morning. I am so happy that we have this piece of untouched nature in the heart of the city.

It has currently become a trend to cover walking paths in parks with concrete pavers. Natural surfaces like dirt trails and gravel are gentler on the knees than hard concrete.

Unlike dirt and gravel, or even asphalt, concrete  pavers are not  compressible under pressure and  the impact on knees and ankles is higher while walking or running.

It will also take away from the natural beauty of the lake if artificial elements are introduced. I request the University of Mysore (UoM) Vice-Chancellor (VC) to keep this in mind and involve experts in any planned improvement of this walking paths.
