Bengaluru: Karnataka Government has banned the use of plastic at 36,000 temples across the State coming under Muzrai Department. While, the ban on plastic was announced on Aug. 15, the initiative to create awareness was launched yesterday at the Dodda Ganapathi Temple at Basavanagudi. The awareness programme was launched by Muzrai Minister Ramalinga Reddy in presence of MLA Ravi Subramanya.

Speaking on the occasion, Ramalinga Reddy said temples apart from being a place of worship must also highlight the need of being environment-friendly.

“Through this campaign we are aiming to create environment-friendly atmosphere at temples across the State. This will help in conservation of environment on a larger scale,” he added.

Plastic-free Temples

The State Government has banned usage of plastic cups, bowls, plates and bags at all Muzrai temples. The temples have been instructed not to serve prasadam in plastic items  instead adopt eco-friendly measures. Devotees visiting the temples will be told about the plastic ban. Strict action will be taken against those temple authorities on failing to implement the plastic ban.
