Elderly man killed, students injured as goods vehicle hits

Bannur: An elderly man died of injuries while two students sustained injuries when a goods vehicle hit them and ran over the students on the main road in Bannur on Sept. 16 evening.

While the deceased has been identified as Mayigowda (75), resident of the town, the two children Mohammed Numan and Mohammed Likman, are the students of Lions School in the town.

After school closed for the day, the two students were waiting on the roadside when the goods vehicle driven by one Srinivas hit the students and ran over them resulting in Numan sustaining a fracture on his leg while Lukman escaped with minor injuries.

Driver Srinivas, who did not stop the vehicle, drove it for about 600 metres and hit Mayigowda, who was returning home from his field resulting in him suffering multiple internal injuries.

Mayigowda, who got himself treated, went home but succumbed to injuries the next day.

Bannur Police, who have registered a case, are investigating.
