Navaratri Rangotsava in city from tomorrow

Theatre festival to feature plays by college students, inter-State folk festival

Mysore/Mysuru: Rangayana Mysuru will be organising Navaratri Rangotsava from Sept. 22 to Oct. 1 at its premises. The theatre festival will be inaugurated by Kannada and Culture Minister Shivaraj Thangadagi on Sept. 22 at 5.30 pm. Department of Kannada and Culture Secretary Dr. M.V. Venkatesh will inaugurate the poster exhibition. This year, the theatre festival will feature plays by students of various colleges.

Deputy Commissioner G. Lakshmikanth Reddy, Kannada and Culture Director K.M. Gayathri, Joint Director V.N. Mallikarjunaswamy and Ranga Samaja members Shashidhar Bharighat, Dr. K. Ramakrishnaiah, H.N. Suresh Babu, Mahantesh M. Gajendragada, Lakshmi Chandrashekar, Dingri Naresh and M.S. Jahangir will be the chief guests. Chamaraja MLA K. Harishgowda will preside. Rangayana Mysuru Director Satish Tipatur, Deputy Director Dr. M.D. Sudarshan and others will be present.

Prior to the inauguration Viddu Ucchil of Mangaluru will render theatre songs as part of B.V. Karanth Rangsangeetha programme.

Along with Navaratri Rangotsava, Rangayana Mysuru in association with South Zone Cultural Centre, Thanjavur is also organising inter-State folk festival at Vanaranga from 5.30 pm every day. The event will feature Lambadi/Maturi performance by Telangana, Lavani/Holi performance by Maharashtra, Siddi Dumaal by Gujarat, Sambalpuri by Odisha, Thiruvathirakali and Oppana by Kerala, Bihu and Gusaan by Assam, Norta and Saitham by Madhya Pradesh, Ratwa by Gujrat, Tappatagulu by Andhra Pradesh, Karagam, Kavadi and Thappatam by Tamil Nadu teams.

Plays will be staged at Bhoomigeeta at 6.30 pm every day. Entry is free.
