Sir,
Apropos to the report titled “Friend saves doctor from extortion bid” published in SOM dated Sept. 24, I would like to urge fellow citizens, especially seniors — who are often easy targets — to consider installing dashcams in their vehicles.
These small devices can play a major role in identifying culprits involved in fake accident scams, which are becoming alarmingly common in our city.
Though such incidents are often pre-planned, with offenders even going to the extent of removing number plates to avoid identification, dashcam footage can still help capture clear images of their faces, vehicles and the exact sequence of events.
Such evidence can prove crucial in tracking down the culprits and can also serve as a strong deterrent against future attempts.
Particularly, areas like Vishwamanava Double Road and Hinkal have seen a noticeable surge in such criminal activities.
I appeal to the Police authorities to take note of this pattern and consider launching a dedicated helpline or WhatsApp number for quick reporting and swift investigation of such cases.
Timely action, combined with citizen vigilance and co-operation, can go a long way in eliminating this menace from our streets.
