Leopard Task Force gets vehicles, special gear

September 30, 2025

Mysore/Mysuru: To curb leopard-related incidents in Mysuru district, Forest Minister Eshwar B. Khandre formally handed over five new vehicles and a suite of modern safety equipment to the district’s Leopard Task Force (LTF).

The ceremony, held at the Mysore Palace premises, marks a significant enhancement of the team’s operational capacity in tackling human-wildlife conflicts.

The Forest Department has procured specialised gear, including fibre batons, protective shields, and advanced surveillance tools. Among the showcased equipment were thermal drones, 360-degree drones, solar-powered sensor drones, high-intensity torches, and multiple types of cages and nets.

Officials demonstrated their usage to the Minister, underscoring their importance in capturing rogue leopards and ensuring the safe rescue of cubs.

Khandre noted that these resources would strengthen both efficiency and safety of the Task Force during high-risk operations.

Puja to Abhimanyu

Minister Khandre performed a ceremonial puja for Golden Howdah carrier elephant Abhimanyu, along with his companions Kaveri and Hemavathi.

The rituals, conducted near the Kodi Someshwara Temple within the Palace, were led by priest Prahallad Rao. The Minister offered sugarcane, jaggery and fruits to the elephants.
