Sir,
Since the last few days, several fake accidents have been reported in our city, mainly targeting senior citizens driving alone in their four-wheelers, even in broad daylight.
About 15 years ago, the Traffic Police had ‘Cobras’ — Constables on white bikes — patrolling their jurisdictions. These mobile officers proved extremely useful in responding quickly to both real and fake accidents. Their mobility allows them to reach accident spots faster and manage traffic jams efficiently.
With Mysuru city traffic increasing, it would be prudent to have at least two Traffic Police Constables per Traffic Station on bikes, patrolling their respective areas, especially between 8 am and 8 pm. There could be a centralised control and communication system to alert the ‘Cobras’ in case of such incidents.
The contact phone numbers of these Traffic ‘Cobras’ could be displayed at key locations, enabling road users — particularly senior citizens driving alone — to reach the nearest team quickly during emergencies.
On behalf of all road users, we hope the authorities will reintroduce Traffic Cobras in every Traffic Station to ensure the safety of everyone on the roads.
