Mysuru: Dr. Nisha Mammen, a seasoned vocalist now settled in Finland, will be presenting a Karnatak vocal concert at the residence of Mysore Vasudevacharya in the city on Sunday (Oct. 5).
She will be accompanied by Vidu. Prerana Praveen on violin and Bhuvan Ravishankar on mridanga. The concert, scheduled to start at 10.30 am, is open to all.
Profiles: Trained under esteemed gurus Seetha Krishnan and Dr. K. Omanakutty, Dr. Nisha is currently a disciple of Vidu. Amrutha Venkatesh. A performer from the age of six, she has performed across Qatar, India Norway and Finland, sharing the spotlight with legendary artistes like Shankar Mahadevan, Anuradha Sriram, Mano and M. Jayachandran.
Her vocal range and versatility allow her to traverse multiple genres — from Karnatak classical and Indian film music to folk, Urdu ghazals and English rock music. Beyond performing, she is also a composer and the lead vocalist of two Finland-based bands: ACIES (rock) and Ethos (contemporary folk).
She has also composed Indian light music. Passionate about sharing her knowledge, she is a dedicated music teacher, inspiring children and music lovers by teaching songs in several Indian languages.
Vidu. Prerana, a disciple of Vid. H.K. Narasimha Murthy (violin) and Dr. Sukanya Prabhakar (vocal), has performed in many concerts at sabhas in Mysuru.
Bhuvan hails from a musical family and is the grandson of Vid. T.V. Bhadhrachar. His father and guru Vid. Tumakuru B. Ravishankar is a leading disciple of legendary Guru Karaikudi R. Mani. Bhuvan has been giving regular performances as an accompanist for a couple of years now.
The inaugural concert of Krishnaarpanam series — to celebrate Krishna Janmashtami — was held on Aug. 17, featuring Vidwan Rakesh Sudhir alongside his disciple, Ankush S. Kadaba.
A versatile musician, composer, and graded All India Radio artiste, Rakesh Sudhir is the disciple of late Karnataka Kalashree Vidwan A.V. Prakash. He has trained in Karnatak classical vocal under Vidushi Rajalakshmi Narasimhamurthy for over 12 years.
Sumeru V. Sakaleshpur, son of Dr. Vikram S. Kumar and Dr. K.S. Shubrata, has shown remarkable promise in a short span of four years of flute training under Rakesh Sudhir. A 7th std. student at Jnanadeepa Vidya Samsthe, Shivamogga, he is also a disciple of Vidwan Sringeri H.S. Nagaraj in Karnatak vocal.
