Rescues 33 children from beggary; CWC warns parents of legal action in case of any recurrence

Mysuru, Oct. 5- In a special drive named ‘Operation Navaratri’, the Special Juvenile Police Unit and Child Helpline, has rescued over 30 children who were found begging on roads during the recently concluded Nada Habba Mysuru Dasara.

Acting on the directions of District Child Protection Unit, the Special Juvenile Police personnel and volunteers of Child Helpline (1098/112), rescued 12 boys and 21 girls totalling 33 children. They have been shifted to a temporary accommodation.

These children were found begging at Dasara Food Mela held at Maharaja’s College grounds, Dasara Exhibition Grounds, near Mysore Palace and Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens (Mysuru zoo) and other venues. Some among them were seeking alms in the name of selling toys. Besides, special teams were involved in similar drives at busy junctions of the city.

They (children) were produced before Child Welfare Committee (CWC), before taking them to Government Rehabilitation Centres. CWC Chairman Ravichandra and its Members, who conducted a meeting with the parents of those children, advised them against forcing their wards for beggary, along with issuing a warning to take action in case they repeated the act.

If anybody comes across women seeking alms, inform Child Helpline on 1098 or 112.
