Mysuru, Oct. 11 (BLU&BS)- Mysuru Sangeetha Sugandha-2025, a two-day Karnatak music festival began at the Senate Hall in Manasagangothri campus this morning.

Inaugurating the music festival, Mysuru-Kodagu MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, also the titular head of erstwhile Mysore Royal Family that produced reputed court musicians and composers, spoke on rich Dasa Parampare that holds a distinct position in the history of culture and music of the country.

The music festival is organised by the Union Ministry of Tourism in association with Union Ministry of Culture, Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi and State Tourism Department. The first edition of the music festival was inaugurated by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the city previous year.

Yaduveer Wadiyar, recalling the music festival as a dream project of Nirmala Sitharaman, said: “It has exhibited the blend of Dasa tradition and culture of Karnataka as Dasa tradition has a distinct role in the culture and music of the country. It is nothing but a sheer coincidence that the music festival is organised in Mysuru, reliving the musical and cultural greatness associated with this place.”

The statues of Saints Thyagaraja and Purandaradasa have been installed at Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh, thus signifying the integral role played by Dasa tradition in the realm of Indian music, with the country considered as a sacred place for the same. The Indian culture has an essence of Mysuru, he said.

Yaduveer reiterated that, popular slogan of Prime Minister Narendra Modi ‘Sab Ka Saath Sab Ka Vikas’ is conceptualised to achieve ‘Viksit Bharat’ dream.

The inaugural session was followed by Karnatak vocal music concerts by Dr. Vidyabhushana from Bengaluru, Vid. Saketharaman, Chennai and Vidu. Vani Sateesh from Bengaluru. Vidu. Mahalaxmi Shenoy from Karkala (Udupi) presented a Hindustani vocal music concert.

Krishnaraja MLA T.S. Srivatsa, Secretary of Union Tourism Department V. Vidyavathi, Secretary of State Tourism Department Dr. K.V. Thrilok Chandra, noted violinist Dr. Mysore Manjunath were present.

Six stalls, selling Mysore Rosewood Inlay products, Ganjifa cards, Mysore Traditional Painting, Channapatna toys and other products had been opened on the premises.
