SVYM’s Candlelight March to create compassionate community

World Hospice and Palliative Care Day

Mysore/Mysuru:  Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement (SVYM), Mysuru, has organised an event to observe World Hospice and Palliative Care Day tomorrow (Oct. 31).

The programme will feature a stage event from 4.30 pm to 5.30 pm followed by a Candlelight March to raise awareness about the importance of compassionate and inclusive palliative care.

The theme for this year’s observance is ‘Achieving the Promise: Universal Access to Palliative Care.’

This event is organised by Palliative Care Programme of SVYM, in collaboration with Mysore Medical College and Research Institute (MMC&RI), Mysuru, the Department of District Health and Family Welfare, Mysuru, Rotary Mysore North, Rotary Mysore Brindavan, Rotary Mysore Vijayanagara, Rotary Mysore Ambaari and Rotary Mysore South East.

The Candlelight March will signify the need to walk together to reach our goal of universal access to palliative care in Mysuru.

Around 1,000 participants are expected to join the march, including students from various colleges, NGO representatives, community members, well-wishers and staff members.

The event will be inaugurated by G. Lakshmikanth Reddy, Deputy Commissioner of Mysuru. Other distinguished guests include Dr. P.C. Kumaraswamy, District Health & Family Welfare Officer (DHO), Dr. K.R. Dakshayani, Dean, MMC&RI, Mysuru, Rtn. PHF P.K. Ramakrishna, District Governor, Rotary International, Mysuru and Savitha Sulugodu, Chief Executive Officer, SVYM, who all will also flag off the march on Oct. 31 from Platinum Jubilee Hall, J.K. Grounds, Mysuru.

The stage programme will be held from 4.30 pm to 5.30 pm at Platinum Jubilee Hall, J.K. Grounds, followed by the Candlelight March, which will proceed along K.R. Hospital Road, Sayyaji Rao Road, D. Devaraj Urs Road, Dewan’s Road and conclude at the starting point — JK Grounds.
