City writer’s poem Appa in Varsity syllabus

Mysuru, Oct. 31 – The poem ‘Appa’ from the poetry collection ‘Jeevanmukhi’ by city’s noted writer T. Satish Javaregowda, Founder-President of Spandana Cultural Forum, has been selected for inclusion in the undergraduate syllabus of Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Vijayanagara district.

The University’s Department of Kannada has incorporated ‘Appa’ into the fourth-semester Kannada language textbook ‘Vijnana Saurabha’, prescribed for B.Sc., B.Sc. (GMT) and BCA degree courses. Students will study ‘Appa’ as part of their Kannada syllabus for the next three academic years.

Satish Javaregowda, who also heads the Mandya District Young Writers’ Forum, is well-known across Karnataka as a poet, teacher and cultural organiser.

Writing under the pen name ‘Sajagow,’ he has authored several poetry collections, including ‘Jeevanmukhi’, ‘Sanje Male’, ‘Hole Jangamana Jolge’, ‘Galipata’, ‘Kuhu Kuhu Kogile’ and ‘Divya Dhevige.’

Currently serving as State Vice-President of the Central Kannada Literary Forum and Honorary Secretary of Adamya Rangashale, he remains deeply involved in Kannada literary and cultural movements. He teaches at the Government Higher Primary School, Mellahalli, Mysuru Taluk.

Recently, Satish Javaregowda’s poem “Belakigu Shokada Grahana” (The Eclipse of Light and Grief) was also chosen for the third-semester Kannada language textbook Vijnana Saurabha of Kuvempu University, Shivamogga, for B.Sc. students.

The poem will remain part of the syllabus for all degree colleges under the University from 2025 to 2028.
