October 31, 2025

Hunsur/Mandya, Oct. 31 – A Gram Panchayat (GP) Member from Hunsur was burnt alive when the Toyota Innova Multi-Utility Vehicle (MUV) in which he was travelling caught fire after a tipper vehicle collided head-on with the MUV near Hosahalli, between Pump House and Palahalli in Srirangapatna taluk on Wednesday night.

The deceased is Chandrashekar (49), Mookanahalli GP Member and son of former Mookanahalli Panchayat Pradhan late M.M. Shettygowda.

Chandrashekar, who had taken part in a peace meeting at a village near Mandya, was proceeding in his Innova car (KA-51-MB-6478) towards Hunsur, when the tipper vehicle collided head-on with his car.

Due to the impact, the Innova caught fire and within seconds the entire car was up in flames. Chandrashekar, who was seated on the rear seat, was trapped inside and burnt alive, Police sources said.

Police, Fire and Emergency Services personnel, who reached the spot, extinguished the fire and prevented the fire from spreading further. But the Innova was completely destroyed in the fire.

Chandrashekar leaves behind his wife, two sons and a host of relatives and friends. Last rites were held at his farm in Mookanahalli yesterday.

Srirangapatna Town Police, who have registered a case, have seized the tipper vehicle and have launched a hunt to nab the driver, who fled the spot after the accident.
