Two held for poaching deer, mouse deer

Mysore/Mysuru: The Forest Department personnel have arrested two persons on charges of poaching a deer and a mouse deer in Hunsur Wildlife Range and have launched a hunt to nab another person.

Those arrested are 49-year-old G.J. Roopesh of Chennapura village in Somwarpet taluk and 28-year-old C.L. Arun of Gandada Kote village. Their accomplices 23-year-old Jeevith of Chikkatoluru village has gone absconding.

The accused were caught on Saturday at about 11.50 pm, when the Forest Department officials and staff were on their regular patrolling on Booditittu Main Road at Anechowkur Range in Nagarahole Tiger Reserve.

The Forest staff have seized one car (KA-04-MA-8111), a single barrel gun, two empty cartridges, one live cartridge, one head-torch, 2 mobile phones and carcasses of the poached animals.

A case has been registered at Hunsur Wildlife Range.
