JSS Sangeetha Sabha to host 30th Annual Music Conference in city from tomorrow

To confer ‘Sangeetha Vidya Nidhi’ on Dr. T.S. Sathyavathi and ‘Sangeetha Seva Nidhi’ on S. Ramaprasad

Sangeetha Sabhas play a vital role in nurturing music and musicians, serving as key institutions that uphold the cultural essence  of society.

Established in 1983 by Jagadguru Dr. Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji, JSS Sangeetha Sabha stands as a distinguished organisation dedicated to promoting classical music. Notably, it is the only Sabha in Mysuru that hosts Annual Music Conferences, showcasing lecture-demonstrations, performances by renowned musicians, musicologists, scholars and emerging talents.

The Conference is conducted in memory of Dr. Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Swamiji, guided by Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji who is the Honorary President of the Sabha. During the valedictory ceremony, the President of the Conference is honoured with the prestigious title ‘Sangeetha Vidya Nidhi’ and the coveted ‘Sangeetha Seva Nidhi’ award is conferred upon an eminent classical music promoter and organiser.

In the 30th edition of this esteemed conference, which will be held from Dec. 2 to 6 at Navajyothi Auditorium in the premises of JSS College for Women, Saraswathipuram, Mysuru, Dr. T.S. Sathyavathi, a renowned musicologist, performer and scholar will be the Conference President and the well-known music patron S. Ramaprasad will be honoured with the title of ‘Sangeetha Seva Nidhi.’

SCHEDULE

There will be two events a day — a lecture-demonstration in the morning at 10 am by eminent musicians and musicologists; In the evening, a one-hour slot from 5.30 pm to 6.30 pm featuring young and upcoming artistes, followed by the main concert for the day.

Dec. 2

5.30 pm: The event will be inaugurated in the divine presence of Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji. The title of ‘Sangeetha Seva Nidhi’ will be conferred upon S. Ramaprasad. Ramesh Kannan, MD of Kaynes Technology, will preside. Mysuru-Kodagu MP Yaduveer Wadiyar and District Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa will  be the chief guests. MLA T.S. Srivatsa  will release Nadanamana.

7.15 pm: Vocal recital by Dr. T.S. Sathyavathi, accompanied by Nalina Mohan on violin, K.U. Jayachandrarao on mridanga and V.S. Ramesh on morching.

Dec. 3

10 am: Sangeethanjali; Lecture-Demonstrations – A study of the major musical art forms around the world by Dr. Uma Kumar; Talamalika Lakshana by Srikantham Nagendra Shastri.

5.30 pm: Veena recital by Surabhi Pustakam, accompanied by Sai Shivu Lakshmi Keshav on mridanga.

6.30 pm: Vocal concert by Ramakrishnan Murthy, accompanied by Nishanth Chandran on violin, Tumkur B. Ravishankar on mridanga and M.R. Manjunath on ghata.

Dec. 4

10 am: Sangeethanjali; Lecture-Demo on Comparative study of Singing and Sumukha Veena by Sampagodu Vighnaraja; Soundarya Meemamse in Dikshitar’s Kritis by Dr. Sathyavathi.

5.30 pm: Vocal Concert by Medha Manjunath, accompanied by S.A. Divyashree on violin and S.P. Nagendraprasad on mridanga.

6.30 pm: Vocal concert  by Sampagodu Vighnaraja, accompanied by Mathur Srinidhi on violin,  Anirudh Bhat on mridanga and Sharath Kaushik on ghata.

Dec. 5

10 am: Sangeethanjali; Lecture-Demo on Intricacies in Pallavis by Archana L. Rao; Role of gamaka in Ragha Bhava by Hiranmayee Srinidhi.

5.30 pm: Flute concert by Achyutha Athreya, accompanied by Rupanagudi Ratna Teja on violin and Nandan  Kashyap on mridanga.

6.30 pm: Vocal concert by Vishnudev Namboodri , accompanied by Charulatha Ramanujam on violin, Arjun Kumar on mridanga and Raghunandan  Rao on ghata.

Dec. 6

5.30 pm: The valedictory function will commence in the presence of Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji, in which Dr. T.S. Sathyavathi will be conferred the title of  ‘Sangeetha Vidya Nidhi.’

The valedictory speech will be delivered by Dr. C.A. Sridhar. MLA K. Harishgowda will be the chief guest.

Prize distribution to the winners of the JSS Music Competition by Ramesh Kannan. The event will be presided by Mysore Nagaraj.

6.30 pm: Veena-Venu Jugalbandi  concert by D. Balakrishna and V. Vamsidhar, accompanied by B.S. Prashanth on mridanga and Shamith Gowda on ghata.
