Pourakarmikas urge MCC Commr. to fulfil their pending demands

Mysore/Mysuru: Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) Commissioner Shaikh Tanveer Asif held a grievances meeting with Pourakarmikas at Sri Jayachamaraja Wadiyar Hall in MCC Main Office here yesterday. During the meeting, the Pourakarmika leaders demanded fulfilment of their demands, which have been pending for long.

“At present there are nearly 2,000 Pourakarmikas serving in MCC, including 231 underground drainage workers, 565 personnel and drivers attached to garbage pick up vehicles, 40 cleaners and 1,100 direct credit Pourakarmikas. All Pourakarmikas must be provided a monthly hazardous  allowance of Rs.2,000 as decided earlier. As of now, there is one Pourakarmika for a population of 700, which number should be brought down to 500 in order to ease workload. All Pourakarmikas must be brought under Gruha Bhagya Housing Scheme and jobs on compassionate grounds for kin of Pourakarmika who died while in service,” they demanded.

The other demands  included reimbursement of school/college fee of children of permanent Pourakarmikas, distribution of rain coats, shoes, aprons, jerkins and to provide all facilities under 24.10 percent scheme for Pourakarmikas, financial assistance for self-employment, free LPG gas connection and distribution of sewing machines.

After hearing their grievances, MCC Commissioner said that rest houses  for Pourakarmikas will be built shortly in all the 65 wards of MCC. He also assured that their demands will be sent to the Government for due consideration.

MCC Additional Commissioner Dasegowda, Heads and office-bearers of various Pourakarmika Associations —  N. Mara, T. Srinivas, N. Mohan Kumar (Swamy), Narasimha Bande, G. Manjunath, Vadivelu, C.R. Rachaiah, M. Rajiv, S. Ganesh,  Shankarappa, Kumaraswamy, Murugesh, Krishnaswamy, Mahadevi — and others were present.
