Nearly 3,000 people take part in World Meditation Day

Mysore/Mysuru: Braving chilling cold, nearly 3,000 people from across the city took part in the World Meditation Day programme organised by the city’s Prajapita Brahmakumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya, Mysuru, at Open Air theatre in Manasagangothri campus here early this morning.

University of Mysore (UoM) Registrar M.K.Savitha, who spoke after inaugurating the programme, said that doing meditation will help in creation of positive thoughts in the minds of people of all ages. Pointing out that meditation is an ancient practise that involves one’s attention on the present moment,  she said that meditation has been practised for thousands of years. “ World Meditation Day is celebrated for inner peace and global harmony. Meditation is rooted in religious, yogic and secular traditions across cultures”, she noted.

Brahmakumari Lakshmiji delivered a lecture on the topic ‘The benefits of Meditation’, while Brahma Kumari Manjula delivered a talk on Mass Meditation.

Students and members of the public took part.

KSOU Vice-Chancellor Prof.Sharanappa V.Halse, Government Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences College Principal Dr.Venkatakrishna, Assistant Director of Ayurveda Research Centre Dr. Lakshminarayan Shenoy, B.K. Ranganath and others were present.

At Chamundi Hill: World Meditation Day was also celebrated atop Chamundi Hill, under the aegis of Sri Chamundeshwari Development Authority.

The Authority Secretary M.J. Roopa, Chamundeshwari Hill temple chief priest Shashishekar Dikshit and others were present.
