Mysore/Mysuru: Marking 112 years since Rabindranath Tagore became the first Indian and the first Asian to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature, a special dance-drama was presented on Dec. 10 at the Indian Institute of Educational Theatre (IIET), Mysuru.
The commemorative performance was conceptualised, curated and organised by M.R. Srividya, offering a soulful artistic tribute to Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore’s timeless literary and philosophical legacy. The production explored themes of humanism, spirituality, freedom and universal harmony that form the core of Tagore’s works.
The music for the dance-drama was composed by Mandolin Prasad, blending classical depth with emotive resonance. The performance featured live singing by Nitin Rajaram Shastri and Amrita Nitin Shastri, adding vitality and authenticity to the presentation.
The dancers — Navyata, Shreya, Anusha, Roopashri, Jyoti and M.R. Srividya — brought Tagore’s vision to life through expressive movement and evocative abhinaya.
The programme stood as a meaningful cultural homage, celebrating Tagore’s enduring relevance and his contribution to world literature.
Encouraged by the response to the December presentation, a repeat show of this dance-drama is planned for the first week of February, with further refinement and enhanced artistic elements, making it an even richer experience.
