State-level Cross Country Championship held in city

Students take out awareness run against narcotic drugs

Mysore/Mysuru: Mysore District Athletic Association (MDAA) and Physical Education Teachers’ Academy Trust, Mysuru, in association with Palace Sports Club, Mysuru and Perform Sports Academy, Mysuru, had organised Karnataka State Cross Country Championship-2025 and Awareness Run-2025 with the theme ‘Say No to Drugs, Say Yes to Sports’ here this morning.

While the Awareness Run was flagged off from Chamundi Vihar Stadium at 8.30 am by KPCC Member G. Srinath Babu, Cross Country Championship was flagged off by senior athletes Thippavva Sannakki, Prabhakar, Parashivamurthy and Albert from Lalitha Mahal Helipad at 6 am.

More than 800 athletes from various districts took part in the Cross Country Championship which was held for a distance of 10-km for both men and women. The race, which was flagged off from Lalitha Mahal Helipad, passed through Lalithadripura Road, T. Narasipur Road, Sangolli Rayanna Circle,  Maharana Prathap Circle, CAR Grounds, Golf Club Road, Tavarekatte Road, before culminating at the Helipad passing again through Lalithadripura Road.

Races were held in several categories including 8-km race for U-20 boys, 6-km for U-20 girls and U-18 boys, 4-km for U-18 girls, 2-km for U-16 boys and girls. Cash prizes worth Rs. 1 lakh, were awarded to the winners in various categories.

Meanwhile, a 4K Awareness Run was held from Chamundi Vihar Stadium in Nazarbad.

More than 500 students from various schools and colleges took part in the event. The run was organised to create awareness against the use of narcotic drugs and to encourage sports, passed through Shanthaveri Gopal Gowda Circle, Bannur Road, Kurubarahalli Circle, Lalitha Mahal Road, Vidyanagar Police Quarters, before culminating at Chamundi Vihar Stadium. The organisers had provided T-shirts to all the participants.

MDAA President S. Somashekar, Hon. Secretary B. Srikanth and Treasurer M. Umesha, Physical Education Teachers Academy Trust President Dr. C. Krishna and others were present.

10-km race (men): 1. Onkar Rajendra Panhalkar (Bengaluru Urban) – 29:15.7 sec, 2. Karan Gehandule (Bengaluru Urban) – 29:16.8 sec, 3. Guruprasad (Tumakuru) – 29:45.3 sec.

10-km race (women): 1. N.I. Thejaswi (Bengaluru Urban) – 34:44.6 sec, 2. Aradhana (Bengaluru Urban) – 34:52.8 sec, 3. C. Priyanka (Bengaluru Urban) – 35:06.6 sec. 

8-km race (U-20 boys):  1. J.R. Kalyan (Bengaluru Urban) – 24:51.7 sec, 2. Akhil Kumar (Ramanagara) – 24:54.6 sec, 3. Shailesh Kushwaha (Bengaluru Urban) – 24:54.8 sec. 

6-km race (U-20 girls): 1. Vaishnavi Rawal (Belagavi) – 21:25.9 sec, 2. Shilpa R. Hosmani (Dharwad) – 22:50.1 sec, 3. Tamanna (Bengaluru Urban) – 22:50.5 sec.

6-km race (U-18 boys): 1. Praveen Arjun Arage (Kodagu) – 18:19.9 sec, 2. Chandrashekar Basavaraj (Koppal) – 18:37.9 sec, 3. Laxman Siddappa Hirali (Bengaluru Urban) – 18:50.6 sec.

4-km race (U-18 girls): 1. Nagini (Dakshina Kannada) – 14:41.0 sec, 2. Charishma (Dakshina Kannada) – 14:53.1 sec, 3. Akshra Majukar (Belagavi) – 15:12.6 sec.

2-km race (U-16 boys): 1. Prem Burud (Belagavi) – 5:43.2 sec, 2. Aditya Heggi (Kalaburagi) – 5:44.2 sec, 3. Sofiyan Sudhani Jamadar (Belagavi) – 5:46.7 sec.

2-km race (U-16 girls):  1. Laxmi B. Obbammanavar (Dharwad) – 6:26.7 sec, 2. D. Megha Ashok (Dakshina Kannada) – 6:39.2 sec, 3. Shreya S. Ghanti (Dharwad) – 6:45.8 sec.
