Pro-Kannada activists visit Kuvempu’s residence
Mysore/Mysuru: A delegation of pro-Kannada organisations visited ‘Udayaravi,’ the residence of Poet Laureate Kuvempu at V.V. Mohalla in city on Thursday only to urge the family members of late poet to develop the residence as a Memorial.
In a discussion held with Kuvempu’s daughter Tarini Chidananda Gowda, the activists vented their anguish over what can be described as the lethargic attitude of the State Government, in developing ‘Udayaravi’ as a Memorial. It is shameful on the part of the Government for showing reluctance to honour the poet laureate, who has made enormous contributions to the land and language, enriching its culture and tradition, they said.
“Isn’t Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who hails from Mysuru, reminded of ‘Udayaravi’ and the related demand, when he shows all eagerness to approve the proposals to install the statues of late Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi & Rajiv Gandhi, and Sonia Gandhi at Kalaburagi. If the Government continues to show neglect towards Kuvempu, all pro-Kannada organisations in the State will launch a campaign to raise one rupee from the house of every Kannadigas.”
Karnataka Navanirmana Sene President Bheemashankar Patil, Karnataka Kavalu Pade President Mohankumar Gowda, Karunadu Sevakaru Sanghatane State Convener M.B. Nagangowda and Karnataka Navanirmana Sene Bengaluru City President Prashanth Gowda & District Unit President Shreyas were present.
