Mysore/Mysuru: The Azeez Sait Road (Mahadevapura Main Road) at Narasimharaja (NR) Assembly Constituency in the city has now got a heritage touch. The ornamental lamp posts are being installed at the centre of the road median, giving a new heritage look to the 3.5-km-long busy stretch of road.
As the city is growing by leaps and bounds, witnessing the surge in traffic density, Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has taken up the works on installing 105 electric poles at an estimated cost of Rs. 1 crore. While works are on to fix LED bulbs to the same, lamp posts have been put up from Nexus Mall junction to KSRTC bus depot at Sathagalli, realising the long-cherished dream of residents of that part of the city.
The electric poles are fabricated using iron and aluminium materials, at Indore in Madhya Pradesh. The poles assure 100-year durability, said A.E. Deepak, Executive Engineer (EE) of Electrical Section at MCC.
To facilitate the works, the previously installed poles were returned to the contractor. The works on fixing LED bulbs have been expedited and are expected to be completed in a few days, he added.
Meanwhile, the local residents have urged the authorities concerned to fix the LED bulbs that align with the heritage style poles. The bulbs seem to be of regular design that won’t synchronise with the design of the poles.
Additionally, the footpaths have to be built on either side of the road, along with storm water drain and seating arrangements that will enhance the visual appeal of the road.
