Mysore/Mysuru: The Fifth Additional District and Sessions Court in Mysuru has rejected the anticipatory bail petitions of a man and his parents, accused of abetting the suicide of a young woman who allegedly faced sustained mental and physical harassment.

Sampritha (28), daughter of Sahadeva Rao, a cook from Dattagalli in Mysuru, had married Mukkati Kushal, son of M.U. Vasanth of Kalathmadu village in South Kodagu, following a love affair.

Kushal was working as a cybersecurity engineer at Quantify Analytics Solutions Pvt. Ltd. in Whitefield, Bengaluru.

After the marriage, Kushal allegedly subjected Sampritha to mental harassment, reportedly under the influence of his mother. When she became pregnant, he is said to have forced her to undergo an abortion.

She was later allegedly driven out of the house, after which Kushal went into hiding and remained incommunicado.

Distressed, Sampritha returned to her parents home in Dattagalli and narrated her ordeal to her parents. On Dec. 10, 2025, she reportedly wrote a death note blaming her husband and mother-in-law for her sufferings, before her death by hanging.

Following her death, Kuvempunagar Police registered a case and submitted a preliminary report to the Court, initiating an investigation. Apprehending arrest, Kushal, his father Vasanth and mother Renuka filed anticipatory bail applications before the Fifth Additional District and Sessions Court.

After hearing the matter, Judge K.N. Roopa dismissed the petitions, citing the gravity of the offence.

Public Prosecutor A.N. Madhu opposed the bail plea.
