Financial aid distributed to cancer patients

Mysore/Mysuru: As part of World Cancer Day, the city based ODP (Organisation for the Development of People), in association with Sanghamithra organisation, distributed financial assistance to 80 cancer patients at a programme organised in ODP premises on Feb. 4.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. P. Pradeep, Surgical Oncologist, Narayana Health Hospital, elucidated the evolving landscape of oncology, advocating for early detection and compassionate clinical intervention. He adviced cancer patients should not be scared of the disease and at the same time not to be ignorant.

Noting that an alarming 3 crore people in the world are getting affected by cancer every year, he expressed concern that the fast pace which the deadly disease is catching up across the globe is very alarming.

The theme of the World Cancer Day this year is ‘United by Unique,’ placing people at the centre of care and their stories at the heart of the conversation, he added.

Rev. Fr. Tenny Kurian, Director, ODP, who spoke after distributing the cheque, said as many as 80 cancer patients have been collectively given Rs. 7.17 lakh as financial support, with help from donors. He thanked Sanghamithra organisation and the donors for their generosity.

S. Mahadevaswamy, Regional Manager (Mysuru), Sanghamithra, highlighted the socio-economic scaffolds necessary to sustain long-term patient recovery. Rev. Fr. John Fernandis, Asst. Director, ODP, Staney Lobo, Donor and Vice-President, Konkani Christian Assn., Mysuru, Rathna, Convenor and others were present.
