‘Plea for swimming pool’

March 4, 2026

Mysuru: Former Corporator and Anikethana Seva Trust President K.V. Mallesh has urged authorities to initiate measures to construct swimming pool at Maralawadi lake area located near Kuvempunagar to meet the growing demand of the residents.

“Kuvempunagar is home for many educational institutions, business and sports coaching centres. With city growing every day, the authorities must work towards providing necessary facilities. Students, youths and other interested public have been demanding for a swimming pool in the area.”

“The authorities, who cleared the encroachments at Malarawadi Lake area, have constructed a park after late Saalumarada Thimmakka and a part of the land has been allotted to ISKCON Temple. The remaining part of the land is being used to dump solid waste and there is every chance of land encroachment in the future.”

“The Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) must initiate measures to construct a swimming pool under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model to make use of the land,” he said.

Mallesh urged the Mysuru City Corporation to make provisions in the upcoming Budget.

He also suggested that constructing a sophisticated swimming pool would avoid children and youths from visiting lakes, canals and rivers for a swim, especially during summer.

“Constructing swimming pools will also avoid causalities which have been reported often where children and youth have lost their lives drowning in lakes, wells and rivers,” he added.

The facility will also benefit the children of the locality, who will be taking part in swimming competitions and also fitness enthusiasts who want to practice swimming.
