Food safety and adulteration awareness at Orchids School

March 4, 2026

Mysore/Mysuru: An informative Food Safety and Adulteration Awareness Programme was conducted at The Orchids Public School to educate students on safe food practices and the detection of common adulterants in daily-use items.

With this event, Mysore Grahakara Parishat (MGP) launched the celebration of World Consumer Rights Day-2026 (WCRD) to create greater awareness about consumer rights and responsibilities. WCRD is celebrated on Mar. 15.

The session was opened by Dr. Bhamy Shenoy, Founding Working President of MGP with preliminary remarks on the importance of learning about the ways our daily consumption of food products are adulterated or pesticides are used.

Ravi Bale, Treasurer of MGP, gave a presentation highlighting adulteration in everyday household products and the importance of consumer awareness.

Through a slide presentation he showed how adulteration of some items like butter, tea, dal, etc., can be easily detected in the house. He stressed the need to look for Food Safety and Standards Authority of India  (FSSAI) label while buying packaged food items to ensure safe products.

FSSAI experts — Dr. Ravindra, Dr. Yeshwant and Deepika, along with Food Safety Officers from rural areas — conducted live demos showing simple methods to identify food adulteration. The practical session enabled students to understand food safety standards and make informed choices as responsible consumers. The programme, organised under the guidance of Ullas Pandit, Chairman, The Orchids Public School, concluded with an interactive discussion.
