Mysuru: City’s Padmapriya Ramesh Kumar finished runner-up in the ITF J60 Juniors World Ranking Tennis Tournament held at Gurugram in Haryana yesterday.
In the all Karnataka finals, 13-year-old Padmapriya lost to 17-year-old, No. 2 seed Snigdha Kanda of Bengaluru with a score of 4-6, 4-6. She performed well and made her to run full court, but could not get the crucial points during 4-4 and 4-5 in both the sets.
Padmapriya played well in the entire tournament showing her grit. She defeated No. 1 seed Prisha Shinde with 6-4, 6-1 in the semi-finals, No. 6 seed Angel Patel 6-3, 6-4 in the quarter-finals. Padmapriya did not drop a single set till the semi-finals displaying her dominance over top seeded players.
Daughter of Dr. P. Ramesh Kumar, Chief Conservator of Forests (Project Tiger), Mysuru and Dr. Malathi Priya, Chief Conservator of Forests (Chamarajanagar Circle), Padmapriya trains under Coach Raghuveer Ponnuswamy, Pawan and Sagar (fitness coach) in Mysuru. She is a Class 8 student at Excel Public School in city.
