Colourful procession marks Mahaveer Jayanti in city

Mysuru, Mar. 30 – Hundreds of Digambar Jain community members took out a colourful procession to mark Bhagwan Mahaveer Jayanti celebrations in city this morning.

At 6.30 am today, abhisheka was performed to the idol of Bhagwan Mahaveer at M.L. Vardhamanaiah Jain Boarding Home, near Sangam Theatre on Chandragupta Road using Ashta Gandha, Chandana, milk and others.

Later, three idols of Bhagwan Mahaveer were placed atop three vehicles while a small idol placed on a palanquin was carried out in a procession accompanied by Mangalavadhya, which passed through Halladakeri, Ashoka Road, Nehru Circle, before culminating at the starting point.

Panaka and buttermilk were distributed to the public by the community members on the occasion.

Members of various Jain women organisations, dressed in colourful attire, danced all along the procession to celebrate the occasion while men dressed in white indicating the message of peace — Ahimsa.

Jain Charitable Trust President Sunil Jain, Mahaveer Mithra Mandali President Ananthaprasad, Vice-President Dinakar, Director Sanmathi, Pramod, senior Advocate Harish Kumar Hegde and others took part in the procession.

Shwethambar Jains to celebrate tomorrow

Shwethambar Jain community members will be celebrating Bhagwan Mahaveer Jayanti tomorrow (Mar. 31) under the aegis of Sthanakvasi Jain Sangh, Shwethambar Murthi Pujak Sangh and Terapanth Sangh.

Members of Sri Sthanakvasi Jain Yuva Sanghatan will be distributing food at 10 places to celebrate the occasion.

Stage programme by District Administration

The District Administration, Kannada and Culture Department, Mysuru City Corporation and Bhagwan Mahaveer Jayanthotsava Committee have organised a stage programme to celebrate Mahaveer Jayanti at Kirurangamandira in Kalamandira premises tomorrow at 10.30 am.

District Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa will inaugurate in the presence of Animal Husbandry Minister K. Venkatesh, MPs Yaduveer Wadiyar and Sunil Bose, MLAs, MLCs, Chairmen of all Boards and Corporations, Deputy Commissioner G. Lakshmikanth Reddy, Regional Commissioner Nitesh Patil, Zilla Panchayat CEO S. Ukesh Kumar, Additional Deputy Commissioner Dr. P. Shivaraju, MCC Commissioner Shaikh Tanveer Asif, Superintendent of Police Mallikarjun Baladandi, City Police Commissioner Seema Latkar and others. MLA K. Harishgowda will preside.

Sri Swasthisri Bhanukeerthi Bhattaraka BhattaCharyavarya Mahaswamiji of Shrikshetra Kambadahalli Jain Mutt will grace the occasion. Litterateur Prof. S. Shivarajappa will deliver a lecture.

A light music programme by M.V. Prabhamani Manjunath and troupe will be held on the occasion.
