Proposal under discussion, no final decision yet: UoM

April 3, 2026

Mysore/Mysuru: The University of Mysore (UoM) has refuted allegations made by Syndicate Member Dr. T.R. Chandrashekar regarding the proposed agreement to hand over Jayalakshmi Vilas Mansion building to a private entity.

On Apr. 1, Chandrashekar had accused the VC and the Registrar of acting unlawfully in pushing forward the lease proposal.

Responding to the allegation, Registrar M.K. Savitha, in a communication sent to Chandrashekar this morning, clarified that the Syndicate has not taken any final decision on the matter.

According to her, discussions held during the Syndicate meeting on Mar. 27 and in earlier sessions were limited to examining pros and cons of the proposal.

“The Syndicate has not passed any resolution to sign any agreement. The Registrar had only informed members that the proposal would be examined in accordance with the University Act, statutes and Government policies,” the letter stated.

Savitha pointed out that Dr. Chandrashekar had briefly stepped out of Mar. 27 meeting to attend a phone call and therefore may not have been fully aware of the deliberations. The allegations, she said, were made without complete knowledge of facts.

Describing the charges as “premature and unnecessary,” she said they had been made at a time when no final decision had been taken. Urging him to withdraw his letter, Savitha advised Chandrashekar to seek proper information and verify facts before making such accusations.
