Two convicted in Govt. cheque defrauding case

Mysore/Mysuru: The First Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court has sentenced C. Venkatesh, aged 63 and Jayalakshmi, 68, residents of Janathanagar here, to one year and six months of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs. 30,000 for conviction under each IPC sections, for defrauding the Government of Rs. 4 lakh.

Venkatesh, a Group-D employee at the Assistant Commissioner’s Office, Mysuru Sub-Division, had allegedly stolen a Government cheque (No. 061283) and fraudulently issued it in Jayalakshmi’s name.

He forged the signature of the Assistant Commissioner, enabling Jayalakshmi to transfer Rs. 4 lakh from Government’s savings account to her  own account.

Lakshmipuram Police had registered a criminal case. Then PSI Prabhudev investigated and filed the charge sheet. After trial, Judge A.G. Shilpa convicted accused under IPC Sections 379 (theft), 420 (cheating) and 471 (using forged documents) R/w 34. Senior Assistant Public Prosecutor K. Prakash argued the case.
