Now, Endobronchial Ultrasound technology at Manipal Hospitals in Mysuru

April 27, 2026

Mysore/Mysuru: In a significant step towards respiratory care in the region, Manipal Hospitals, Mysuru, highlighted the impact of Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS) through a real patient success story at a press conference held in city recently.

Renowned Pulmonologists — Consultant – Pulmonology Dr. R. Lakshmi Narasimhan, Associate Consultant – Pulmonology Dr. K. Spurthi and Hospital Director B.J. Sandeep Patel, along with the patient shared her journey from uncertainty to diagnosis.

Fifty-four-year-old Thayamma had been struggling with persistent respiratory symptoms for several months. Despite consulting multiple centres and undergoing several tests, a clear diagnosis remained out of reach, leaving her and her family deeply anxious.

Recalling her experience, Thayamma said, “Even after visiting different hospitals, we still didn’t have clear answers. When I came to Manipal Hospital and met Dr. Lakshmi Narasimhan, his team guided me at every step. After the procedure, I felt a deep sense of relief knowing we finally had the right diagnosis.”

The respiratory team led by Dr. Lakshmi Narasimhan, recommended an advanced diagnostic approach using EBUS. The procedure enabled precise, real-time assessment of the affected area and allowed doctors to obtain targeted tissue samples safely. Following the procedure, Thayamma remained stable and is doing well.

Explaining the significance of this technology, Dr. Lakshmi Narasimhan said, “Diagnosing conditions in mediastinum has always been challenging. With EBUS, we are able to visualise areas beyond the airway walls and obtain accurate samples in real time. This reduces the need for invasive surgical procedures and helps us arrive at a diagnosis faster and more safely.”

He further stated, “In cases where previous investigations have not yielded clear answers, EBUS plays a crucial role. It improves diagnostic accuracy while ensuring patient comfort and safety, helping us initiate the right treatment without unnecessary delays.”

Dr. Spurthi said, “EBUS is a minimally invasive procedure that combines bronchoscopy with ultrasound imaging. It allows us to assess lymph nodes, masses and other structures within the chest with high precision. For patients, this means fewer risks, quicker recovery, and access to advanced diagnostics closer to home.”

Hospital Director Sandeep Patel said, “EBUS facilitates faster diagnosis and timely initiation of appropriate treatment. With this advanced capability now available in Mysuru, patients can access high-quality care locally, reducing delays and the need to travel to larger cities.”

He emphasised that this cutting-edge, minimally invasive diagnostic technology reinforces the hospital’s commitment to delivering high precision and patient-centric care.
